Lean Social Canvas

The Project's planning structure — animated by the DARE rhythm (Discover, Aspire, Refine, Empower).

Why (Opportunity)

City roofs get hot, shed rain fast and do little for the street below. Green roofs promise cooler buildings and less flooding, but a small company can't show what one would do on its own roof, so few get built. Nobody had clean, local numbers.

What (Solution)

Measure it. A sensor network on PartnerCo's roof compares a planted section with a bare one: surface heat, rain run-off, and the energy used on the floor below. The test: six months of clean data with no gaps, then a method any building owner can reuse.

How (Plan)

Built with the city's BrandedCircle and the University of Amsterdam's. PartnerCo gives the roof and funds the pilot through its match; the university lends the sensor kit and a research assistant; the city sets the measures it will accept for its roof subsidy. Mira's crew checks the sensors on the first Saturday of every month.

Stakeholders

Beneficiaries

Building owners and tenants on hot, flood-prone streets; the city's climate team; the neighbours who come to the roof days.

Partners

BC Gemeente Amsterdam, BC University of Amsterdam, PartnerCo's data team (four hours a week, pro bono), and Mira's crew of twelve colleagues and neighbours.

Funders

PartnerCo's employee-giving match, 38 colleague backers on the UP rails, and sensor kit on loan from the university.

DARE

Volunteers can keep the data free of gaps

Validated

Experiment: Monthly roof days and a check rota for six months

Metric: Days with complete data

Green: ≥98% Amber: 90–98% Red: <90%

Result: 100% — six months, zero gaps

Owner: Mira L.

Timeline: Jan–Jul 2032

The planted section cools the roof measurably

Validated

Experiment: Planted and bare sections on the same roof, read by the same sensors

Metric: Peak surface temperature difference

Green: ≥15 °C Amber: 8–15 °C Red: <8 °C

Result: 18 °C on the hottest days

Owner: Erin Smith

Timeline: Apr–Jul 2032

The city will accept the method for its roof subsidy

Testing

Experiment: Method review with BC Gemeente Amsterdam's climate team

Metric: Measures accepted, of five

Green: 5 of 5 Amber: 3–4 of 5 Red: 2 or fewer

Result: 4 of 5 accepted so far

Owner: Femke d.V.

Timeline: Jul–Sep 2032

Other building owners can reuse the method without the crew

Next

Experiment: Two outside roofs run the method from the written guide

Metric: Days with complete data in their first month

Green: ≥95% Amber: 80–95% Red: <80%

Result: Starts once the canvas is signed

Owner: Project team

Timeline: Oct–Dec 2032

Guidance for this Project, from across the domain.

Winter cover

The north array goes unchecked over the Christmas holidays. Two data-volunteer seats are open on Opportunities.

Suggested mentor match

Ghent's roof team runs the method on a school roof and offers peer calls. MentorMatch intake opens Monday.

Relevant course

UP Academe · “Sensor data in the field” — the crew's own module, for the two new volunteers.

Stage C route

Once the canvas is signed, a roll-out across the district qualifies for UP BusinessBank's Type 2 lane.

Demonstration

Welcome to 2032

This is the UP HUB as we imagine it in 2032 — 26.4 million members in — not the organisation as it exists today. The architecture is designed; the members, Circles and Projects you’ll meet are illustrative. What you’re about to see is the future state we are raising founding capital to build.

The demonstration has two parts. First, the public face — the journey from stranger to member. This half performs itself: the enrolment fills in before your eyes — sit back and watch. Then, the HUB itself — the member experience, seen through the eyes of one member: Erin Smith of Amsterdam, five years in. That half is yours — click around and explore freely. And to move back and forth at your own pace, use the small Demo navigator in the bottom-left corner — it walks the whole journey, in either direction.

If you have come from a use case on unitedpeoples.earth, you are already in the second part — the HUB itself — and the Circle you read about is waiting behind this notice. The public face is one step back on the Demo navigator whenever you want it.

A note on how it works: this is a demonstration, not a finished product. Much of what you see is display only. Where something is live, your cursor will tell you — the hand icon means click. All members, Circles, Projects, brands and figures are illustrative, derived from the UnitedPeoples operating model. No brand shown is intended to suggest endorsement or support, implied or explicit — brands appear for illustrative purposes only.

One thing is already real: NAVi, the AI companion. Talk to it at any point.

And if you've arrived here first: this is the model suite. The case for building it — the plan, the numbers, the invitation — lives at unitedpeoples.earth.
